Oral & Facial Piercings (lip, labret, cheek, monroe) You should apply ice on and off for the first 3 days to reduce and minimize swelling. A mild antibacterial soap should be used 1-3 times a day.. Be sure to wash your hands before touching your piercing. Using warm water gently lather around the piercing and rinse well. If the lymph or plasma crustys don’t come right off, soak the area with warm water until they soften and gently use a Q-tip to wipe them away. Never pick or scratch at them. Dab a antiseptic solution on the area throughout the day. H2Ocean is a great product, bactine or pierced ear solution will work also. A solution of 50/50 of listerine and water should be carried and used after meals and drinks other than water.
Tongue Piercing Ice should be applied as much as possible for the first 3-10 days to control swelling. Ibuprofen can be taken for discomfort and will also help with swelling if your able to take it. A 50/50 solution of Listerine and water should be carried and used to rinse after meals and drinks other than water. Most starter barbells should be changed after three weeks to minimize damage to oral tissue from the long starter barbell.
Most Other Piercings ( Navel, nipple, eyebrow, nose, ear, etc) A mild liquid soap should be used 1-3 times a day. Be sure to wash your hands before touching your piercing. Using warm water gently lather around the piercing and rinse well. If the lymph or plasma crusts don’t come right off, soak the area with warm water until they soften and gently use a Q-tip to wipe them away. Never pick or scratch at them. Genital Piercings We do not usually put restrictions on sex but refraining for a couple weeks helps the piercing heal faster. Do what your comfortable with and be gentle. Do however, protect your self from the transfer of bodily fluids with condoms and or dental dam. Cleaning should consist of a mild soap twice a day and anytime you have been in contact with another person. Gently lather the whole area and rinse very well. We find that for most people they can use their normal showering soap as long as its rinsed off well. Changing soaps can sometimes cause other issues. Warm, shallow sea salt baths feel soothing and can help the tissue heal and recover from irritation.
Surface Piercings Talk to your piercer, these vary, everyone has their own secrets of healing.
